A group of students who are participating in a university's summer science camp are drawn into an incredible quagmire of conflicts, ranging from the relatively simple conflict between an engaging and forthright young teacher and his older manipulative colleague, to a contest pitting political correctness against free scientific inquiry. Despite the murkiness of some of the issues in the latter conflict, the students pitch in enthusiastically on what they believe to be the side of righteousness, and passions rise to fever pitch. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide。春秋时代，吴越争霸不已，吴王夫差（白彪）为报杀祖之仇，出兵攻越，越大败，范蠡（潘志文）说服勾践（罗石青）投诚于吴，赴吴为奴。勾践在吴受尽百般凌辱，最后，范用计令夫差摒除戒心，放勾践及夫人（斑斑）回国。 勾践回国后，立志发奋图强，卧薪尝胆，并采用范蠡及文仲（熊德诚）之计谋，实行十年生聚，十年教训。范蠡于宁萝村，邂逅西施（黎燕珊），范觉西施为人冰雪聪明，且美貌非凡，二人渐生情愫，且暗定白头，。但范为了国家，对西施晓以大义，决定牺牲二人之爱情，送西施赴吴侍奉夫差，西施亦深明大义，含泪答允，西施与另一美女郑旦（徐宝凤）赴吴后，肩负起迷惑夫差之任务。 夫差赴黄池大会之时，范认为时机已成熟，出兵攻吴，吴军大败，夫差逃回姑苏台，欲先杀西施，幸范赶至，夫差知大势已去，因常见无面目见先祖，求西施以罗帕裹面，夫差自刎。 越夫人巩西施乃不祥人，欲沉西施于太湖，而西施以负...。
