On Christmas Eve in 1968 six-year-old army brat Clairee simultaneously learns the hard truth about Santa Claus and the realities of war. Her bullying older brother Mickey informs her that Santa insn't real and that their absent father is actually far away, serving his country in the Vietnam War。故事围绕两个13岁的男孩展开，他们的关系长久以来非常亲密，但同学之间对他们的关系产生猜忌，使他们不得不分道扬镳。而当一场悲剧发生时，其中一个男孩被迫面对他为什么与他最亲密的朋友疏远。。
