抗日时期，日本为与意大利增进盟友关系，预从中国的青木川盗取四只有“东方活宝石”之称的世界珍稀动物朱鹮赠予墨索里尼，并为此派遣特工进入青木川实施“宝石计划”。而在青木川有一支规模较大的土匪首领叫郑草狗，郑草狗虽名为土匪，但实际上却更像是青木川的父母官，把青木川治理的非常繁荣，受到了百姓的尊崇。在得知日本企图盗取朱鹮后，异常气愤，喊出：我郑草狗也是抗日的硬骨头！随即调动大量人手、展开行动与日本特工进行斗智斗勇。并最终致使特工盗窃朱鹮行动失败，逼迫日本宣布“宝石计划”破产……。死神，很多人以为他拿着镰刀，面目狰狞，甚至有人以为他有一本笔记本，决定人的生死…但有否想过，死神，可能只是一些普通人，他们没有法力，与你我无异，他们只是一群人，一个机构，默默地在执行着死亡任务。 香港分公司的主理人苏丽珍（郭羡妮饰），手下有三名经理，分别是彭森（栢天男饰）、心儿（刘心悠饰）、宝玲（袁绮雯饰）。原来代理公司所执行的任务，是产生连锁效应的死亡事件，从而平衡人口。与此同时，在任已久的苏丽珍宣布辞职，彭森、心儿和宝玲等人各自为着个人理由而对主理人之位虎视眈眈之际，同时有几位新任执行员加入，却都带着不为人知的目的，一场明争暗斗似乎要展开。然而众人都不知道，其实自己已身陷于一个能触发无数个时空改变的情形…。In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power.
