1934年10月，中央主力红军撤离苏区后，少共国际师战士，共青团员杨草根带领儿童团员坚持敌后斗争，经历了血与火的洗礼。解放后，当年的少共国际师的后代，志愿军女战士江红花复员后，来到初建的共青汽车厂担任团委书记，带领团员青年白手起家，艰苦创业。改革开放的大潮掀卷着这个当年经历过峥嵘岁月的共青汽车厂。共青汽车厂子弟、青年志愿者刘小刚，在结束志愿者使命之后，临危受命，毅然来到濒临倒闭的共青汽车厂担任团委书记。面对渴望改变渴望生存的广大职工，他带领广大团员青年，通过刻苦学习，成立团员青年攻关小组，历经各种艰难抉择，终于制造出中国第一辆拥有自主知识产权的汽车。刘小刚也在这个艰难的过程中收获了成功，收获了友谊，也收获了爱情。。A strange man comes into a house with only the wife.
